Why Teak

Nature’s finest timber,

engineered by time to master the outdoors.

We know our Timber, Inside and Out

Teak does not adapt to the outdoors—it was born for it.

Strength hidden in the details.

A living material that ages with grace.

Beauty that evolves, resilience that remains.

Nature’s Ultimate Defense.

Why Teak? Teak is renowned for its exceptional outdoor durability. Naturally rich in protective oils, it withstands heavy rain, harsh UV exposure, and pests while offering excellent resistance to warping and cracking across different climates. Reclaimed Teak

Reclaimed teak is a premium hardwood prized for its durability, rich natural beauty, and resistance to the elements — making it an ideal material for outdoor furniture. Each piece carries its own story, crafted from salvaged wood that combines sustainability with timeless character.

Characteristics of Reclaimed Teak

  • Eco-Friendly and Aesthetically Unique
Reclaimed teak is chosen for both its environmental benefits and its rustic, aged look. Over time, it weathers beautifully, developing a silvery-grey patina that enhances its natural charm.

  • Craftsmanship and Natural Movement
Your furniture has been constructed using smaller segments of teak, laminated together to form a solid structure. As the wood adjusts to changing conditions, joints and inserts may expand, contract, or rise slightly — a completely natural process known as checking.
Simply glue any raised inserts back down using Epoxy glue. These natural variations add to the furniture’s rustic character and are not considered faults or covered by warranty.

Cleaning

  • Steps:

    1. Dilute Simple Green cleaner according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

    2. Using a soft, non-abrasive scrub pad, gently clean along the wood grain.

    3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all residue.

    4. Allow the furniture to air dry completely before use.

Sealing

  • Purpose:
To preserve teak’s original golden tone and provide protection against moisture and UV rays, regular sealing is recommended.

  • Steps:

    1. Seal promptly after purchase with Semco Sealant (clear tone) — available from reputable marine supply stores.

    2. Reapply every 6–12 months, depending on the level of outdoor exposure.

    3. Regular sealing helps prevent uneven weathering and prolongs the life of your furniture.

Weathering

  • Natural Aging:
Left untreated, reclaimed teak will gracefully age to a silver-grey colour. This weathered appearance does not affect the wood’s strength or integrity — it’s part of teak’s enduring beauty.

    • If you prefer this natural patina, only minimal cleaning and care are required.

    • If you wish to maintain the golden-brown tone, apply sealant regularly as directed.

Storage and Protection

  • Recommendations:

    • During extended periods of non-use or harsh weather, use protective covers or store indoors.

    • Ensure the storage area is dry and well-ventilated to prevent moisture buildup and mildew.

    • Avoid placing furniture on damp surfaces for long periods.
