Teak Furniture
Our outdoor furniture is crafted from genuine teak, a hardwood naturally rich in protective oils. These oils not only give teak its characteristic warm honey-brown tone, but also make the wood durable, water-resistant, insect-resistant, and highly suitable for outdoor use. When new, teak has a warm golden color that gradually softens to a silver-grey patina over time. As a natural material, teak will change over time — this is part of its character, not a flaw.
What to Expect from Natural Teak
As a living hardwood, teak naturally responds to changes in temperature and humidity. Over time, this may result in:
-
Colour variation and weathering
-
Natural oil release during the initial months of outdoor use
-
Minor surface checking or small cracks
-
Grain movement and natural variation between pieces
These characteristics are inherent to genuine teak and are generally not considered structural faults.
During the first few months outdoors, natural oils may rise to the surface, particularly in humid or wet conditions. This may occasionally leave faint marks on light-coloured fabrics. This effect is temporary and will diminish as the timber settles and weathers.
Quality & Structural Considerations
Our teak furniture is crafted for normal residential outdoor use. Any concerns relating to genuine manufacturing or workmanship issues that affect the structural integrity of the furniture will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Natural characteristics of teak, including weathering, surface checking, colour change, and oil release, are not regarded as structural faults.
Care and Maintenance
Our teak furniture is crafted for durability and straightforward assembly. To protect the natural timber and ensure a perfect fit, please follow these guidelines:
1. Align Before Fastening: Loosely position the frame and panels first to ensure all screw holes line up correctly before inserting any hardware.
2. Hand-Thread First: Start each screw by hand to ensure it catches the thread smoothly. This prevents cross-threading/stripping.
3. Tighten Evenly: Use the provided tool (or a manual screwdriver) to tighten screws gradually. Alternate between sides (like changing a car tyre) to ensure the frame sits level.
4. Do Not Overtighten: Crucial Step. Teak is a natural material. Stop tightening as soon as the connection feels firm. Excessive force can cause the wood to crack.
5. Final Check: Once assembled, give the piece a gentle wobble test to ensure stability. Retighten slightly only if necessary.
Before placing cushions
When you first receive your teak furniture, wipe all exposed surfaces with a soft cloth dampened with mild soapy water, then allow to dry fully before placing cushions.
During the initial months
-
If visible oil appears on the surface, wipe it away with a clean, dry cloth.
-
Avoid leaving light-colored cushions directly on the teak for long periods while the furniture is new. A thin protective layer can be used if needed.
-
If oil marks appear on fabric, spot clean promptly with mild soapy water, following the cushion care label.
Ongoing cleaning
-
Clean teak periodically with a soft brush or cloth and a mild detergent solution.
-
Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or pressure washing, as these can damage the wood surface.
Finishing and colour
-
For longer-lasting performance, we recommend applying teak oil to care for your cherished teak furniture and help preserve its natural strength and durability.
-
To maintain the original golden colour, use a quality teak sealer according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Otherwise, allow the timber to age naturally to a soft silver-grey patina without affecting its performance.
