Product Guide - Care & Maintenance

Teak is a naturally strong hardwood that stands up well to weather, making it a popular choice for long-lasting furniture. Reclaimed teak has the added appeal of character, history, and sustainability. With simple care, your pieces can stay beautiful and functional for many years.

What Makes Reclaimed Teak Unique

  • Sustainable & Distinctive: Reclaimed teak is valued for being repurposed, reducing the need for new timber. Its aged look develops into a soft silver-grey patina if left untreated.
  • Crafted from Sections: Pieces are often built from smaller teak segments joined together. With weather changes, joints or inlays may shift slightly. This is normal and can be fixed with wood-safe adhesive if needed.

Cleaning

  1. Mix a gentle wood cleaner with water, following the label.
  2. Use a soft pad or cloth to clean along the grain.
  3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  4. Allow the furniture to dry fully before use.

Sealing (Optional)

  • If you want to keep the teak's golden tone and add protection from moisture and sunlight, apply a teak sealer such as Semco Clear.
  • Reapply every 6–12 months, depending on exposure.
  • If you prefer the natural silver-grey weathered look, sealing is not required.

Weathering
Unsealed teak naturally fades to grey over time. This change is cosmetic only and does not usually affect the wood's strength.

Storage & Protection

  • Use a cover or bring furniture indoors during harsh weather or long periods of non-use.
  • Store in a dry, ventilated space to prevent moisture damage.

Teak is a dense hardwood valued for its strength, weather resistance, and warm appearance. With the right care, your furniture will age gracefully and last for decades.

Key Characteristics

  • Appearance: Plantation teak has a fine, even grain. Left untreated, it naturally fades to a soft silver-grey.
  • Natural Cracks: Small surface splits, called "checking," may appear as the wood expands and contracts. This is normal and rarely affects performance.

Cleaning

  • Mix a mild wood-safe cleaner (e.g., Simple Green, diluted as directed).
  • Scrub gently with a soft pad along the grain.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Let the piece air dry completely before use.

Sealing (Optional)

  • To preserve teak's golden colour and reduce sun/moisture damage, apply a teak sealer (e.g., Semco clear tone) soon after purchase.
  • Reapply every 6–12 months depending on exposure.
  • Sealant is available at marine supply and hardware stores.

Weathering

  • Unsealed teak will gradually turn silver-grey. This natural aging doesn't reduce durability—choose whether to seal based on the look you prefer.

Storage & Protection

  • Use covers or store furniture indoors during harsh weather or long periods of non-use.
  • Keep storage spaces ventilated to prevent trapped moisture.

Powder Coating

Powder coating gives aluminium a tough, long-lasting finish that resists scratches, corrosion, and fading from sun or rain. It also keeps its colour and sheen for years outdoors.

Care & Cleaning

Wipe surfaces with a soft microfibre cloth or sponge. To prevent water spots, dry the furniture with a clean cloth after rain or washing. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as these can damage the coating.

A pergola is a long-term investment in comfort and style. With regular care, it can stay strong, clean, and easy to use year after year. Use this simple guide to keep yours in top condition.

1. Regular Checks

  • Inspect several times a year: Look for loose joints, rust, or worn parts, and fix issues early.
  • Motor care (if motorized): Keep the motor clear of dust and debris.
  • Clear debris: Remove leaves and twigs from the roof slats and gutters.
  • Trim plants: Prevent vines or bushes from growing onto the frame.

2. Cleaning

  • Rinse first: Hose off loose dirt.
  • Wash gently: Use warm water with mild detergent and a soft brush or sponge. Avoid harsh cleaners.
  • Rinse again and dry: Prevent streaks or water spots by wiping with a soft cloth.
  • Gutters & slats: Flush with water to stop blockages.

3. Cleaning Frequency

  • City areas: Every 3 months
  • Rural areas: Every 6 months
  • Coastal/industrial zones: Monthly rinse, deeper wash twice a year

4. Accessories

  • Screens & walls: Wipe with warm soapy water; avoid chemicals.
  • Glass: Use glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth.
  • Sliding doors: Keep tracks free of dirt (vacuum if needed).

5. Retractable Shade Blinds

  • When not in use: Retract blinds to prevent wear.
  • During strong winds: Never leave blinds down — this can cause damage, usually not covered by warranty.

Regular cleaning: Brush off dust and debris with a soft brush or vacuum.

Spot cleaning: Mix mild soap with warm water (around body temperature). Blot stains gently with a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid bleach and harsh cleaners.

Rinse and dry: Rinse thoroughly to remove soap. Press out excess water without wringing, then let pillows air-dry in a shaded, well-ventilated spot.

Ironing (if needed): Use only a low heat setting and place a cloth between the iron and fabric.

Preventing mildew: Acrylic fabric resists mildew, but make sure pillows are completely dry before storing, especially in humid areas.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place when not in use to extend their life.

About Your Furniture

  • ELEMENTI HOME tables are handcrafted from GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) using a custom concrete blend and sealed for durability
  • Each piece is unique — slight color variations and tiny pores are natural
  • Over time, outdoor exposure may cause subtle fading or hairline cracks, which do not compromise strength

Daily Use Tips

  • Avoid sliding objects across the surface
  • Keep acidic liquids (e.g., citrus, olive oil) away to protect the seal
  • Always use trivets or coasters for hot items
  • Place food on plates or trays rather than directly on the tabletop

Cleaning Instructions

Routine Cleaning

  • Wipe spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth to prevent staining
  • For general cleaning, mix mild detergent with warm water
  • Gently wipe with a soft cloth or sponge, rinse with a damp cloth, then dry thoroughly
  • Avoid oil-based cleaners, polish, abrasive sponges, or rough brushes

Maintenance Tips

  • Cover your furniture when not in use to protect from rain and debris
  • Store indoors during winter or when temperatures drop below freezing to prevent cracking
  • For outdoor pieces, reapply a water-based sealant every six months: dust the surface, apply evenly with a soft cloth, and let it dry completely
