Care & Maintenance Guide

Reclaimed Teak

Teak is a premium hardwood renowned for its durability, natural beauty, and resistance to the elements. Proper care ensures your reclaimed teak furniture remains in excellent condition for years to come.

Characteristics

  • Eco-Friendly & Rustic Appeal: Reclaimed teak is valued for its sustainability and unique, aged aesthetic. It naturally weathers to a silvery-grey patina over time.

  • Structural Features: Made from smaller wood segments laminated together. During weathering, joints and inserts may expand or contract. Use epoxy glue to secure any raised inserts if needed.

Cleaning

  1. Dilute Simple Green cleaner as per manufacturerā€™s instructions.

  2. Use a soft, non-abrasive scrub pad to clean, following the wood grain.

  3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

  4. Allow to air dry completely before use.

Sealing

  • Apply Semco Sealant (clear tone) soon after purchase to retain the golden colour and protect against UV and moisture.

  • Reapply every 6 to 12 months, depending on exposure.

  • Available at reputable marine supply stores.

Weathering

  • Untreated teak will naturally develop a silver-grey patina over time, which does not affect durability.

  • Minimal maintenance is needed if you prefer the weathered look.

Storage & Protection

  • Use protective covers or store indoors during harsh weather or long periods of non-use.

  • Store in a well-ventilated area to prevent moisture buildup.

Plantation Teak

Plantation teak shares the same durability and weather-resistant properties as reclaimed teak, with a more uniform appearance.

Characteristics

  • Consistent Aesthetic: Even grain and colour, naturally aging to a silver-grey patina.

  • Natural Checking: Small cracks (checking) may appear due to environmental changes, but these do not compromise structural integrity.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Follow the same cleaning and sealing procedures as reclaimed teak.

Storage & Protection

  • Use covers or store indoors during extreme weather.

  • Keep in a well-ventilated space to avoid moisture damage.
