Keep your chooks contained while giving them access to fresh grass with our 90cm Electric Poultry Netting. Designed for New Zealand backyards and lifestyle blocks, this lower-height option is best suited to heavier, less flight-prone chicken breeds that spend most of their time foraging on the ground.
The graduated mesh features closer horizontal rows near ground level, helping reduce larger openings in the lower section. Fourteen integrated double-spike fibreglass posts make the 50m net easy to install, reposition and store for rotational grazing.
When correctly installed, connected to a compatible energiser and regularly tested, the electrified netting helps create a visual, physical and psychological barrier for poultry and ground-based animals.
Suitable Poultry Types:
-
Ideal for ground-oriented breeds such as Orpingtons, Sussex, Australorps, or other less flighty chickens.
-
Suitable for young pullets and chicks, thanks to the dense lower mesh.
-
Works well for standard backyard flocks where birds spend most time foraging on the ground.
Key Features
- Chook-Proof Mesh: Features tight 5cm x 7.5cm spacing at the base to prevent even the smallest chicks or pullets from slipping through.
- Low-Profile Stability: The 90cm height offers a lower centre of gravity, making it easier to maintain high tension and stay upright on typical NZ uneven terrain.
- Stoat & Ferret Deterrent: Denser horizontal wiring at the bottom creates a high-frequency "sting" zone to discourage New Zealand’s common mustelid predators.
- Ready-to-Go Kit: A 50m roll equipped with 14 integrated double-spike fiberglass posts for superior anchoring in soft or clay-heavy soil.
-
Portable Pasture Management: Lightweight and easy to strike/reset, perfect for rotational grazing in orchards or backyard vegetable patches.

Poultry Netting FAQs
Everything you need to know about choosing, installing and using your electric poultry netting.
No. The netting, 14 integrated double-spike fibreglass posts, pre-fitted connection clips and repair kit are included.
An electric fence energiser, earth stake, fence tester and connection lead are not included. To electrify the netting, connect it to a suitable pulsed electric fence energiser and earthing system, following the energiser manufacturer’s instructions.
The 14 fibreglass posts are included with each 50 m roll. They are integrated into the netting and fitted with double ground spikes for improved stability.
They are not 14 additional loose posts supplied separately in the carton.
Choose the height according to your poultry breeds, activity level and how frequently you plan to move the enclosure:
• 90 cm: A practical, easy-to-handle option for calmer, heavier chicken breeds.
• 105 cm: A balanced option for mixed flocks and moderately active birds.
• 120 cm: Provides additional height for active or flight-prone poultry and larger birds.
If you are unsure, the 105 cm model offers a good balance of height and portability for many mixed backyard flocks.
No. The two bottom horizontal rows are insulated and non-conductive, helping reduce direct contact between the live wires and the ground.
• 90 cm: 11 horizontal rows in total, including 9 conductive rows.
• 105 cm: 11 horizontal rows in total, including 9 conductive rows.
• 120 cm: 14 horizontal rows in total, including 12 conductive rows.
Yes. Stainless-steel connection clips are pre-fitted at both ends, allowing multiple rolls to be joined together for a larger enclosure.
Make sure your energiser is suitable for the total connected length and expected vegetation load. After installation, use a fence tester to check the voltage at the point furthest from the energiser.
Yes, it can be used as a temporary visual and physical boundary without electricity. However, its containment and ground-predator deterrent performance will be significantly reduced.
For the best performance, use the netting as intended with a suitable electric fence energiser and correctly installed earthing system.
Yes. Grass, weeds or branches touching the conductive rows can draw power from the fence and reduce voltage.
Mow or trim the fence line before installation and regularly remove vegetation touching the live rows, especially during periods of rapid growth. Test the fence voltage periodically to confirm that it is operating correctly.
Yes. The flexible netting and double-spike posts can follow gently uneven or rolling ground.
For the best result, keep the bottom of the netting close to the ground, fully insert both spikes and maintain even tension. Corners, sharp changes of direction, deep dips, very soft ground or very hard ground may require additional support.
When correctly installed, energised and maintained, the netting creates a strong physical and electrical deterrent for dogs, stoats, ferrets and other ground-based predators.
Performance depends on fence voltage, earthing, vegetation, terrain and predator behaviour. For this reason, electric netting should be used as one layer of poultry protection rather than as a guaranteed predator-proof enclosure.
The netting can remain installed and energised overnight when it has been set up correctly. However, we recommend securing poultry inside a sturdy, well-ventilated coop from dusk until morning.
The electric netting can then provide an additional outer deterrent around the coop and daytime ranging area.
