Keeping Your Outdoor Furniture Beautiful: A Guide to Cleaning Sunbrella Fabric
At Living Culture, we understand the importance of properly maintaining your outdoor furniture, especially when it's covered with Sunbrella fabric. Sunbrella is a material that’s durable, long lasting, and easy to maintain, making it perfect for all outdoor furniture. With that in mind, we’ve put together a guide on how to care for and keep your Sunbrella clean, making the most of your outdoor furniture for years to come.
For spills, the key is to take action quickly.
- Blot liquid spills with a clean, dry cloth. Don’t rub, this will make it worse!
- For oil-based spills, apply absorbent powder like cornstarch to soak up some of the mess, then remove the residue using a straight edge to scrape it away.
- Spray on a mild cleaning solution of soap and water or use a fabric cleaner- make sure you test it on a less noticeable part of the material first!
- Rinse the fabric thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
- Let the material air dry.
For more stubborn stains, you’ll need to take a different approach. If you can remove the fabric from your furniture, you can either soak it in mild soap and water, or send it through your washing machine if the manufacturer instructions say it’s okay. Whatever method you choose, you’ll want to air dry the material afterwards.
If the fabric is attached to the furniture and can’t be removed, you’ll need to get creative! Try using water and mild soap, and scrubbing at the stain gently with a soft bristle brush. For stubborn, oil based stains, try finding a strong degreaser, followed by thorough rinsing.
When it comes to mould and mildew, the good news is that Sunbrella fabric is fairly resistant to these common fungi, but you’ll still need to remove any dirt that has accumulated. The most effective way to clean and prevent this, is to soak the fabric in a solution of bleach and mild soap for at least ten minutes, before you rinse thoroughly and allow it to air dry
We love to use Sunbrella fabric on our outdoor furniture as it’s durable, easy to maintain, and integrates seamlessly with all outdoor spaces.
